DESCRIPTION (Please scroll to the bottom to view video)
A wonderful example of the ‘PLUS (+) Qu’Hier Moins (-) Que Demain’ médaille d’amour referencing the couplet by famous French poet Rosemonde Gérard written to her husband Edmond Rostand from 1889 which in English translates to ‘For, you see, each day I love you more, today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow’.
The original creator - Alphonse Augis - was inspired by this poem and he designed these love tokens in 1907 but replaced the words ‘plus’ and ‘moins’ with the mathematical symbols ‘+’ and ‘-‘ which are often, as in this example, set with diamonds and rubies.
So… this magical piece is French and hallmarked with the eagles head for 18ct gold and a makers marks we cannot attribute.
Crafted in 18ct rose gold, the token in 18ct yellow gold, and and set to the ‘+’ with a tiny diamond and to the ‘-‘ two tiny baguette rubies.
The under gallery is almost as lovely as the token, open worked and ornate, to trifurcated shoulders and a solid flat shank.
Signed to the token also with a tiny ‘A. Augis’ this wonderful and symbolic ring presents rarely to the market, more often we see the pendants.. so this would make a wonderful and sentimental gift to a loved one or oneself!
