Dating to the late Victorian era this charming locket combines the beauty of nature-inspired design with the sentimental with its use of a Lily of the valley motif popular during the Victorian era symbolising a ‘return to happiness’.

Crafted from Vulcanite - patented by Charles Goodyear in 1846 when a substitute for Jet, particularly Whitby Jet, was needed due to rising costs and a demand for mourning jewellery was high.

Designed as a large 5.8cm x 3cm opening locket (not including top ring and dog clip) which opens to reveal a glass paned window to which a photo can be easily placed.
To the front the Lily of the valley motif is applied in high relief and to the surmount an ornate ribbon garland which holds the top ring and versatile swivel dog clip .

A poignant piece of Victoriana, large and impressive when worn, and with the swivel dog clip suitable to accommodate a variety of chains and styling options.
