An absolutely divine, early Australian piece presenting in excellent antique condition! We are thrilled to offer this irresistible ‘ Dove Of Peace’ brooch by the renowned early Australian jewellery firm Duggin And Shappere, for your consideration. 

Crafted in 15ct rose gold and set with perfectly well matched natural half seed pearls, creamy white in appearance and in wonderful condition, a tiny Garnet presents as the eye, while a small olive branch also adorned with three natural seed pearls is carried in its little beak. 

Fully hallmarked for Duggin and Shappere, one of our prestigious early Australian Jewellery firms, this piece is stamped ‘15’ for 15ct, ‘Hanging fleece’ denoting the M.J.A of Victoria guarantee mark and the ‘Vertical Anchor’ symbol for Duggin and Shappere.  

This is by far a special collectors piece, we are in awe of its perfect proportions and attention to detail, measuring a pleasing 3.5x 3.5 cm and weighing just shy of 5 grams, this treasure definitely has presence when worn on your lapel or the collar of your favourite blouse or roll neck cashmere!

History of Duggin and Shappere

Duggin, Shappere and Co. established their business in Howey Place, off Little Collins Street in Melbourne in 1896.  It was one of the major jewellery manufacturers operating in Australian in the first quarter of the 20th century. Producing an extensive range of gold jewellery for the increasing demand from the ever growing Australian population.  Their use of seed pearls is well known in their original designs of both pendants and brooches. 

Their trademark hallmark featuring an ‘Anchor’ was used in conjunction with the guarantee marks of the Manufacturing Jewellers’ Association of Victoria, seen here on this remarkable original piece.

Moving premises several times the settled into their final premises at 343 Little Collins Street where they continued until 1932.
