This striking vintage serpent ring is a true statement piece, steeped in craftsmanship and history.  Crafted in London in 1979, this 45-year-old ring is made from 9ct yellow gold and designed as a double-headed serpent, each head set with a round faceted garnet that glows with deep crimson fire.

The ring has a hefty weight of 5.28 grams, giving it a substantial and luxurious feel. Its smooth, silky finish ensures it sits comfortably on the finger, while the double-grooved shank adds a distinctive touch of texture and refinement. The craftsmanship reflects the meticulous attention to detail typical of late 20th-century British goldsmithing.

Fully hallmarked for London, 1979, the ring bears the leopard’s head assay mark, the “E” date letter, and the maker’s mark for Albion Craft & Co., also stamped “Albion.”

The ring remains in excellent condition, a testament to its quality and care over the decades.

This vintage Albion Craft serpent ring is more than a piece of jewellery — it’s a wearable work of art, rich in symbolism, history, and enduring elegance.

ALBION CRAFT

Albion Craft was a pioneering London jewellery workshop founded in the 1960s by master goldsmith Paul Podolsky, whose vision transformed the landscape of British jewellery design.  The company’s roots trace back to the British National Watch Case Co., a respected diamond mount and watch case maker that Podolsky later acquired and rebranded as the Albion Chain Company. After World War II, the firm shifted its focus from high-end fine work to producing more affordable pieces, primarily in nine-carat gold—a move that made quality craftsmanship accessible to a wider audience.

Building on this foundation, Podolsky established Albion Craft at Albion House in Hatton Garden, the heart of London’s jewellery quarter. There, he created a workshop dedicated to artistry, precision, and innovation. Each piece produced under the Albion Craft name reflected a perfect balance between traditional goldsmithing skill and modern design sensibility, featuring textured metals, bold geometric forms, and imaginative use of gemstones.

Beyond its beautiful creations, Albion Craft became a training ground for emerging jewellers, many of whom went on to shape the future of British studio jewellery. Today, the name Albion Craft evokes the golden age of postwar craftsmanship—a time when creativity, quality, and individuality came together to produce timeless works of wearable art.
