Laybys welcome! Contact Us today to secure your dream piece.
We don’t often offer Rolled Gold pieces but when they are a charming and well made as this long guard chain we have to make an exception!

Crafted around the 1930-40’s (possibly earlier) as a long guard chain consisting of oval flat belcher links, interspersed with small round balls every 14cm and clasping with a lovely round bolt ring.

Measuring 144cm in length this, dare we say, cheaper alternative to a solid gold long chain looks an feels almost as good as the solid gold variety!

Stamped to a link ‘9ct rolled gold’ this versatile chain is perfect for suspending you favourite pendant or two and long enough to double or even triple around the neck.

History of Rolled Gold

Rolled gold soared in popularity between 1920 - 1940s however it was first created in the 19th century in England where it became a popular choice in the making of costume jewellery.  It allowed jewellers to create  pieces that looked exactly like gold but came at a fraction of the price. The quality was also much better than gold plating and the pieces lasted much longer.

Made by fusing a base metal, usually silver, brass or copper between thin sheets of gold. The metals are then bonded together using heat and rolled into flat sheets for use in jewellery.
