Vintage 18ct Yellow Gold ‘PASPALEY’ Mabe Pearl Earrings - Original Box
Synonymous with quality and having cemented its position as a leader in the global Pearl industry PASPALEY Pearls need no formal introduction!
This incredible pair of (almost) vintage PASPALEY Pearl earrings are no longer retailed and are therefore an absolutely fabulous and rare find for the discerning collector of fine Pearl jewellery.
Crafted from 18ct yellow gold and designed with post fittings and omega hinged backs for pierced ears, the omega fittings are crafted in 18ct white gold.. just another nod to the exquisite artistry of Paspaley’s designs.
Each earring features a large 1.3cm lustrous Mabe Pearl, and each Pearl displays subtle ‘orient’ - ‘the iridescent shimmer or sheen found on the surface of a pearl. This sheen is a play of colours, often resembling a rainbow, and is a result of the way nacre is deposited on the pearl's surface’.
Mabe pearls, like other Pearls, exhibit good luster, which is their reflective quality. This luster, combined with the way light is refracted and diffracted by the nacre, results in the display of orient. These Mabe Pearls exhibit a pinkish overtone which is simply superb.
In excellent condition, stamped of course with Paspaley’s iconic ‘P’ and 750 for 18ct gold), and retaining their original box, these earrings embody Paspaley’s legacy of unparalleled craftsmanship, making them cherished addition for those who appreciate the finest in luxury jewellery.
ORIGINS OF PASPALEY
Paspaley's family, originally from Kastellorizo, Greece, migrated to Australia in 1919 and settled in Cossack, Western Australia. Nicholas Paspaley Snr, at the age of 19, purchased his first pearling lugger and began his career in the pearling trade.
In 1935, Nicholas Paspaley established the Paspaley company, initially focused on collecting mother-of-pearl shells.
The company transitioned to the cultivation of Australian South Sea pearls, becoming known for its high-quality pearls.
Paspaley expanded its operations, establishing a presence in various countries and becoming a global leader in the luxury pearl market.
Paspaley remains a family-owned and run company, with its heritage deeply intertwined with the Australian pearling industry and the cultivation of South Sea pearls.
