A beautifully detailed contemporary padlock pendant, crafted in warm 9 carat rose gold and centred with a wonderfully generous cabochon-cut natural Amethyst.
The smooth, domed cabochon is a particularly lovely size, measuring 1.30cm x 1.36cm, the pendant weighs a pleasing 7.31 grams. The Amethyst displays a rich violet-purple hue with deeper plum undertones, becoming brighter and more luminous as the light passes across its polished surface. Its high, rounded profile gives the amethyst a wonderful presence and makes the colour the undeniable focal point of the piece.
The reverse is equally charming, fashioned in the traditional heart-shaped padlock form and decorated with beautifully executed floral and foliate engraving. Flower motifs sit amongst finely engraved leaves and textured detailing, giving the back enough character that it could be worn both ways.
The padlock arm has been fused closed by design, allowing the piece to be worn securely as a pendant rather than functioning as an opening clasp. It also retains a small suspension ring to the top of the arm, providing an additional attachment point for a chain or jump ring.
Alternatively, a chain may be threaded directly through the generous padlock arm itself. This versatility also lends the piece beautifully to being suspended from a bracelet.
Presented in very good pre-owned condition, the rose gold remains beautifully preserved with no notable dents or scratches. The amethyst retains a lovely glossy polish and rich colour; there is a natural surface-reaching inclusion, entirely characteristic of a natural gemstone.
