Whether you're adding to a collection or looking for a unique everyday piece with character, this one stands out!
A timeless treasure that captures the romance, naturalistic vibe, and craftsmanship of its era. Ready to wear and sure to turn heads!

Please note, chains are for display only unless otherwise stated

A beautiful and substantial antique sterling silver double sovereign case, perfect for wearing as a striking pendant or on an antique silver, or gold, watch chain. Measuring 6.8 cm long (from the top ring) by 3.0 cm wide, it has a lovely weight of 34.2 grams - you can really feel the quality when you hold it.

Both the front and back feature the same exquisite raised repoussé decoration of elegant Poppies with flowing stems and detailed foliage, framed by decorative borders. This style is pure late Victorian turning into Art Nouveau - that romantic, naturalistic floral aesthetic that was hugely popular at the time. Think René Lalique and the movement's celebration of organic beauty, flowing lines, and nature-inspired motifs.

Inside, it's a true double sovereign case, designed to securely hold one full sovereign and one half sovereign. It features two perfectly functioning sprung beds with gorgeous engine-turned patterning on the interior panels - a lovely finishing touch that still works smoothly after all these years.

The bail has an inner diameter of 1.0 cm, so it will comfortably fit a substantial chain or can be worn on an Albert watch chain with dog clips. It's a versatile piece that looks equally wonderful on men or women - many of our customers wear these as bold unisex statement necklaces.

The European hallmarks are present but unfortunately not fully identifiable. This is a solid, wearable antique with real presence and history.

Condition

Very very good antique condition. This charming sovereign case opens and closes perfectly. Both interior spring-beds are tight and springy, working perfectly. Some very very slight fading to the engraved fine patterning surrounding the Poppies, insignificant. A slight impression to a bottom rounded corner, mentioning for accuracy only: A stunning and unusual example!
