Art Deco / Mid Century 18ct And Platinum Turquoise Diamond Ring by ‘Catanachs’
Dating to the Art Deco era to perhaps a little later the fine craftsmanship displayed in this ring is breathtaking.
Featuring a large natural green Turquoise cabochon to the centre set in Platinum with micro millgrain edging to a halo of 26 single cut diamonds which are bright, white and sparkly and also set in Platinum.
The basket gallery is superb. Crafted from 18ct yellow gold, open work ornate piercing work so very finely and expertly crafted, to the then upswept square shoulders which flow to a half round comfortable shank.
In pristine condition for its age this beauty was either cared for with love or stored away and rarely worn on the finger, which is a shame as a ring of this quality and beauty deserves to be seen.
For the collector or passionate Australian jewellery collector this one is a must!
Founded in Elizabeth Street Melbourne in 1873 by George Catanach who himself was a working jeweller and diamond setter trained in London.
Within two years George has progressed from one assistant to 12 and relocated to the premises at Little Colins Street.
By 1890 Catancahs had in their employ some 30 to 40 craftsmen and assistants.
Known as a major manufacturer in Australia throughout the 1880’s and early 1890’s and in the course of their expansion the firm became G.W. Catanach and Co. in 1883.
George was a foundation member of the Manufacturing Jewellers’ Association of Victoria.
Their mark “CATANACH’ was registered in 1926.
At some stage they moved to their current premises at High Street Armadale where their continue to to provide the public with their beautiful jewellery.

Excellent antique condition. Turquoise is a lovely natural green with interesting pattern. Diamonds are all original, beautiful and sparkly. Rig appears to not have been worn often or perhaps at all. No thinning to shank, hallmarks are clear and crisp. Stunning ring.
