Antique Victorian Pair Of Tortoiseshell Bohemian Garnet Hair Combs/Forks
A wondrous pair of Victorian hair forks dating to around the late 1800’s to the turn of the last century.
Crafted from we believe natural Tortoiseshell (possibly faux) and studded with the most beautiful, all original, luscious Bohemian rose cut Garnets we have seen.
The two rows of Garnets are set in a curved horse shoe shape, silver bead claws, to traditional Tomb gold-gilt settings seen in Bohemian Garnet jeweller from this era.
(Tombac is an alloy of cooper and zinc used to imitate gold and very commonly used in Bohemian Garnet jewellery).
Measuring 10cm each in length, a lovely size, this pair would have adorned an ‘undo’ or chignon for a special occasion, and could of course again!
Rare to find a surviving pair in such fabulous condition, these area must for the collector.
