Antique Victorian Era 18ct Yellow Gold Old Mine-Cut ‘Serpent’ Ring Circa 1890-1900
Crafted in 18 carat yellow gold, it carries that unmistakable antique hue — not quite yellow, not quite rose, but something beautifully soft and luminous in between, the kind of warm gold tone collectors and jewellery lovers are drawn to instinctively.
Please note, boxes are for display only unless otherwise stated.
Designed as a coiled serpent, it is set with five old mine cut diamonds totalling approximately 0.80 carats. These are not the bright, uniform stones you would expect to find in a modern chain-store setting. They are richly atmospheric and full of antique charm, with a sultry, moody sparkle and subtle variations in colour and clarity that only add to their character. Each diamond has that gently domed, hand-cut appeal so prized in old mine cuts, giving the ring a warm, romantic glow that feels wonderfully authentic to the period.
The largest diamond, placed at the Serpent’s head, sits beautifully in profile and has the presence of a tiny crown! The five graduated diamonds taper elegantly along the body, creating a graceful flow across the finger.
The Serpent’s face is particularly delightful, with raised eyes and a sweet open-mouth expression that gives the ring a charming, almost smiling personality. It is full of life and character, and quite simply a joy to wear.
Measuring just under 2 cm across the finger, and it sits comfortably on the hand with a natural ease that makes it far more wearable than its dramatic presence might suggest. Serpent rings are always sought after, and this one is especially appealing for anyone who loves jewels with soul, history, and individuality.
This is an exquisite piece for someone who truly appreciates the depth, warmth, and unique beauty of old mine cut diamonds, and the enduring mystique of the Serpent motif.
