Antique Victorian 9ct Yellow Gold Etruscan Revival Long Guard Chain Circa 1890-1900
“Popular during the Victorian era long guard chains or muff chains were used to hold a ladies fob watch, lorgnette or vinaigrette and could be tucked into a waist belt or draped over the bodice with the watch etc tucked into a pocket”.
Today this essential jewellery staple is as coveted as in Victorian times and can now be worn in a variety of styles given their superb length. This example is 142cm long and can wrap once, twice or even three times around the neck!
One of the finest examples we’ve had the pleasure of offering to the market, she features nine stunning Etruscan revival spheres with typical ornate applied rope and ball details, interspersing lovely long lengths of oval belcher link chain.
Her original 9ct gold dog clip is in equally outstanding condition and is ready and waiting to hold your favourite locket or pendant.
