One of our favourite rings this week, this all original and stunningly beautiful ring is hallmarked for assay in Chester in 1883, and dare we say in almost the superb condition it was when manufactured 142 years ago by jewellery firm Hollis & Newman residing then at Tenby Street North, Birmingham.

Crafted from 15ct rose gold which, in typical tradition of this era, had been ‘coloured’ (the UK term) or better know as ‘bloomed’ here in Australia, giving a rich yellow gold hue combining beautifully with the rose gold.. this technique gives us that lush superb ‘antique’ finish we all covet in our jewellery.

Designed as a low rise ring with a wonderful finger coverage, and set with five natural gleaming white half Pearls in graduated form with closed backed settings, to the ribbon-like scrolled shoulders - just gorgeous! - and a wide solid flat band.

So very comfortable on the finger, this solid and substantial ring pairs and sits well with all manner of your other favourite rings .. it look simply divine with a diamond eternity ring, or two!

In incredible condition, of superb manufacture and design, this ring, with care could last another 142 years!

History of Blooming

Blooming was a popular finishing technique for karat gold jewellery from 1870 to 1890, was first documented in 1853. The means for creating a bloom finish involved dipping a gold item into a boiling mixture of hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid), saltpeter (potassium nitrate), salt and water. This process burned off any alloys on the surface resulting in an alloy-free, thin layer of soft, pure gold on the item.
