Demantoid is a rare, attractive green variety of andradite garnet well known to gemstone collectors. The rich green colour is derived from trace amounts of chromium.

Demantoid was discovered in Russia in 1868 during the reign of Alexander 11. Much of the finer material still comes from the Ural Mountains.
It was held in such high regard that it became the gemstone of choice in many Faberge creations. It was also very popular in Victorian jewellery.

Presenting rarely to the market these rare and exotic antique ’Salamander’ brooches can be found ranging in price from $7000 USD to $15000 on various international well known antique stores.  However, we will be as realistic as we can and price this one in as fair and reasonable comparative range as possible.

Crafted during the late Victorian era and styled as a Salamander in 14ct gold and silver set diamonds (11 Old European cuts) and incredible Demantoid Garnets (56 antique cuts),  and two tiny Ruby cabochons for his eyes, this brooch is stunningly crafted by a master jeweller.

Measuring an eye-catchingly large 6cm in length, highly detailed to both front and back, with 14ct gold gallery, darling splayed feet and original rollover C clasp with safety arm for the security required for such an exquisite brooch.

Do your research.. there are examples (one identical) out their currently on the market… these items do not present often and certainly not as this price point.
