Antique Sterling Silver And Guilloché Enamel Novelty Heart Vesta Case - Birmingham 1894
This wonderful piece of Victoriana is fully hallmarked for L. Bros Ltd. and hallmarked with the date letter ‘u’ for assay in Birmingham 1894!
Looking quite stylish and contemporary however this piece was crafted during an era where styles overlapped - The Arts & Crafts movement emerged in the UK around 1860 at roughly the same as the Aesthetic movement and the Art Nouveau era 1895 -1910.
Crafted from Sterling silver set to the centre of one side a large Guilloche enamel flaming red Heart.
Vesta cases were used of course to hold matches so perhaps this one was crafted with the intent of ‘rekindling an old flame’ or perhaps even ‘for an old flame’!
Today she could, and should, be worn as a statement pendant, and a secret momento could be kept inside close to ones Heart.
