Antique Georgian Amethyst Glass/Paste Tassie Style Intaglio Fob Seal Pendant Circa 1780-1800
Please note, boxes are for display only unless otherwise stated.
A large Georgian era intaglio fob seal circa 1780-1820 crafted from moulded glass to resemble Amethyst quite typical during this era and in the style of James Tassie (1735-1799) *see below for more info.
Measuring an impressive 3.6cm including the stunning Georgian pinchbeck swivel bale which is set with an array of tiny Stars, also typical of the era, and seen on the finest of Georgian pinchbeck and gold chains, and suspended below is the tapered plinth type fob with the intaglio base depicting a coat of arms with associated scene which sadly we have not been able to attribute.
This piece would look sublime hanging from a Georgian chain, in fact any chain! or perhaps a plush velvet ribbon also.
In good condition for its age and still very wearable (see condition report below) and priced accordingly, this early beauty will appeal to the serious Georgian jewellery connoisseur.

CONDITION
Fair to good antique Georgian condition. There are two chips, one decent sized sliver chip beneath bale to one side, and one smaller one to corner of the base, some tiny flea bites also around base also. Bale is original and lovely with its Star motifs, some patina, we have not over cleaned this one. All in all a still very wearable and early piece of Georgian jewellery.
HISTORY OF TASSIES
James Tassie (1735-1799) made well executed copies of agates and gemstones in moulded glass. He produced over 15,000 cameos and intaglios. Some were of classical subjects, some were portrait medallions of royal or famous people, and some were engraved with robbers or sentimental sayings in either English or French.
Tassie also made models for Josiah Wedgwood (1730-1795) to use for casing his jasperware medallions. Catherine the Great of Russia had an enormous collection of Tassies and valued them for their fine quality and painstaking attention to detail.
