Antique Edwardian 9ct Yellow Gold Green Garnet-Topped Doublet And Faux Pearl Lavaliere Circa 1910-15
Please note, boxes are for display only unless otherwise stated.
Softly romantic and effortlessly elegant, this Edwardian Lavaliere is a beautiful example of early 20th‑century design.
Crafted in 9 carat yellow gold and now well over a century old, it retains a wonderful sense of lightness and refinement on the neck.
The large flowing openwork central panel curves and scrolls gently, and is set with glowing luminous green Garnet‑topped doublets whose fresh vibrant hue brings the piece to life. Faux half seed pearls (very typical of this era) add a delicate softness, perfectly complementing the warm gold tones. Three graceful articulated drops sit delicately on the decollate.
The design is feminine and fluid, sitting gracefully at or just below the collarbone.
Stamped 9 carat to both the pendant and tubular clasp, the necklace has also been XRF tested by our gemologist. The ornate central section tests as 9 carat gold, while the chain tests slightly higher, at just over 12 carat gold.
Possibly of Australian origin, this wonderful piece measures approximately 43 cm in length/neck circumference and remains in excellent, near‑pristine condition for its age.
A truly charming Edwardian piece, rich in period character and timeless appeal.
WHAT ARE GARNET TOPPED DOUBLETS
Garnet topped doublets are widely used in the early 20th century as a practical and visually effective gemstone construction.
A thin layer of natural garnet was bonded over a lighter backing material to enhance brilliance, colour saturation and depth while conserving weight and cost. This method produced stones with strong visual presence and good durability, making them well suited to the refined jewellery designs of the Edwardian period.
