Mizpah is a Hebrew word meaning ‘watchtower’ which is interpreted as ‘May God watch over you’.

During the Victorian to early Edwardian era rings, brooches etc were inscribed with the word and grew in popularity.  Given to a loved one during a long separation such as travel abroad or military service.

This stunning example is almost definitely Australian given the 9ct stamp style, in fact she is stamped twice, and is quite exceptional given her ‘cigar’ band width of an impressive 1.2cm!

Ornately inscribed with ‘Mizpah’ to the front and plain to the verso this one feels and is as lovely on the finger as she looks.

There is a devotion to the inside of the band - ‘Best wishes from Mother 24.8.10’ for 1910.  We can only guess the significance and love to which this ring was given..

In thick and strong condition this meaningful and sentimental should with care last another lifetime.
