Laybys welcome! Contact Us today to secure your dream piece.

Superb quality antique Australian bangle by Robert Rollason dating to around 1910 and crafted from 9ct rose gold which has been **bloomed to give that matte rich yellow hued gold we love to see in our antique jewellery!

Designed as a hinged oval bangle, plain to the verso, but with the most stunning ornate front panel which displays five lush and red garnet topped doublets ( typical of this era ) all set in gypsy star settings.

The ‘shoulders’ are intricate raised cannetille type motifs and rope work accents which also follow through to the borders of the bangle in the Etruscan style which was popular in the Victorian and Edwardian era, absolutely stunning craftsmanship!

Fully hallmarked to the push-in box clasp with Robert Rollasons symbol of two ‘R’s back to back, ‘R’ and 9ct.  Retaining her original safety chain for extra security bangle looks superb on.

A must for the serious antique Australian jewellery collector, bangles of this calibre do not present them selves often.

WHAT IS BLOOMING?

Blooming, a popular finishing technique for karat gold jewellery from 1870 to 1890, was first documented in 1853. The means for creating a bloom finish involved dipping a gold item into a boiling mixture of hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid), saltpeter (potassium nitrate), salt and water. This process burned off any alloys on the surface resulting in an alloy-free, thin layer of soft, pure gold on the item.

HISTORY OF ROBERT ROLLASON

Robert Rollason founded his business in 1888 at 112 Kent street Sydney and was to become one of the foremost jewellery manufacturers in Australia.

By 1896 he moved his manufacturing to Castlereagh Street and by 1907 the firm chased their name to Rollason and Co and in 1910 Rollason and Co. Ltd.
Manufacturing a large range of gold and gem set jewellery, vesta and sovereign cases, chains and Albert watch chains the company moved to a larger premises at 112-114 Crown Street in 1922.

CONDITION
Very good antique condition.  There is one minor crease to the inside of the rear plain section which shows very very slightly to the outside but this crease is negligible and does not affect the integrity of the bangle in any way.  There are non other issues to the bangle.. the garnet topped doublets are original and lovely.  Clasp works perfectly, safety chain is original. Blooming is lovely and in excellent condition.
