Antique Australian 9ct Rose Gold And Ruby Double Serpent Ring - Circa 1915 By Aronson & Co.
Please note, boxes are for display only unless otherwise stated.
This striking antique Australian double-headed serpent ring is a rare and symbolic jewel, crafted in 9-carat rose gold and set with two vivid rubies.
Made circa 1915 by the esteemed Melbourne firm Aronson & Co., it carries all the hallmarks of quality and craftsmanship for which the company was renowned. The ring is fully stamped with Aronson & Co.’s maker’s mark of a flag, the guarantee mark of the wheat sheaf(used by the Manufacturing Jewellers Association of Victoria for 9-carat gold), and the gold purity stamp.
The design features two entwined serpent heads, each set with a fiery ruby, their forms coiled together in a powerful and protective embrace. The serpent motif has been a potent symbol in jewellery for centuries, representing eternity, rebirth, and protection. In literature and mythology, the double-headed serpent carries even deeper meaning—it embodies duality, balance, and the union of opposites. It has been seen as a guardian symbol, representing wisdom and vigilance, with two heads watching in different directions to protect the wearer from harm.
The choice of ruby adds further significance. Long associated with passion, vitality, and protection, rubies were believed to bring strength to the heart and courage to the soul, making them a fitting gemstone for this bold design.
Aronson & Co., established in the late 19th century, became one of Australia’s most respected jewellers, known for their fine craftsmanship and distinctive designs. This ring is a testament to their artistry—solid, symbolic, and beautifully made.
With its rich rose gold glow, intricate detailing, and powerful symbolism, this antique serpent ring is more than just a jewel—it is a talisman of strength and eternal love, as captivating today as it was over a century ago.
A rare and collectable piece of Australian jewellery history suited to the serious collector.
