Antique Australian 9ct Gold Large Sharks Tooth Brooch By C. Piers - South Australia Circa 1900-1910
Please note, boxes are for display only unless otherwise stated.
A superb example of fine antique Australian jewellery, these talismanic pieces of jewellery are as sought after today as they have been for centuries.
Sharks tooth jewellery holds a powerful symbolism regarded as a talisman of protection and power, beloved to protect the wearer from dangers associated with the sea.
Crafted during the Edwardian era circa 1900, by a little known maker working in Adelaide in the late 19th century to early 20th century - Mr C Piers of Commercial Street / St Vincent Street - Adelaide South Australia. Mr Piers was in business from 1888-1921, and crisply hallmarked as such.
This fine example is crafted from 9ct gold which has been ‘bloomed’ to exhibit a rich and buttery higher carat gold finish, with delicate engraving surrounding a shield shaped un-inscribed cartouche to the centre and the magnificent large sharks tooth below.
A rare piece by one of our lesser known early jewellers, an absolute must for the serious antique Australian jewellery collector.
