Laybys welcome! Contact Us today to secure your dream piece.

Dating to the early 20th century circa 1910, handcrafted in Australia by Melbourne jewellery firm A Macrow and Sons - Melbourne -  this fabulous ring is crafted from 15ct rose gold and designed as a ‘shield’ ring symbolising to the wearer protection, safety and guardianship.

Featuring a beautiful 1.00ct round faceted Garnet in gypsy star setting to the shield shaped motif, to ribbon shaped etched shoulder motifs and a wide and solid shank which feels solid and comfortable on the finger.

Low rise to the finger and wide at a full 1.0cm at its widest point, this ring displays a substantial finger presence when worn.

Hallmarked inside the ring crisply is A Macrows stamp  - ‘MACROW 15ct’ and interestingly the stamp - ‘REAL STONES’  denoting the use of a genuine gem (Garnet)!

A wearable piece of Australian art, these early Australian rings are becoming increasingly hard to source and a true collectors item.

HISTORY OF A.MACROW AND SONS

A Macrow and Sons was founded by Albert and William Macrow in Melbourne in 1891. During the 1890s they were located at 346 Flinders Street, becoming A. Macrow and Sons in 1900. It is highly likely that they were the first substantial chain of retail jewellers operating throughout Australia.

From 1900, Macrow and Sons were listed as wholesale manufacturing jewellers at 163 Queen Street. In the same period they greatly expanded their retailing activities. By 1906, A. Macrow and Sons Pty Ltd had moved to 274 Little Collins Street, and subsequently to 414 Swanston Street, Melbourne.

Macrow and Sons' chain of jewellery stores was located in all states, and by 1910 there were some fifteen stores in Victoria alone. A Macrow and Sons Pty Ltd traded in Adelaide until the 1950s.
