This quite poignant Georgian ring is inscribed for a little chap who passed away at age 5 in the year 1785.

John Causton was born on the 9th of October 1779 to Richard and Eliza Causton and died on 1st of May 1785.

He is buried at St Bent Fink but sadly it seems that this graveyard was destroyed due to developments..

Crafted in 12ct rose gold and designed as a large Navette Sepia depicting a grieving woman prone under a weeping willow, next to an urn with dear little Johns initials ‘JC’ inscribed to the plinth. Domed rock crystal encompassing the Sepia.

Engraved edging to the Navette edges and engraved shoulders to a slim half round shank.

Fully inscribed to the verso with ‘John Causton - Ob 1 1785 - AE 5ys & 7mon’

A large spread to the finger of 3.2cm x 1.8cm, in quite remarkable condition for its 238 years of age, this wonderful piece of history is a must for the serious Georgian jewellery collector.

CONDITION
Very very good Georgian condition.  Sepia is clear with no fading.  Rock crystal under scrutiny and magnification shown marks, insignificant given 238 years of age.  Inscription to verso is crisp.  Shank shows very little slimming, very strong and sturdy, evidence of an early resize which has been done expertly.  Stunning ring.
