A striking and highly collectible antique Australian piece dating to the Edwardian era, crafted by John Perryman (1855-1950’s), a jewellery firm based in Adelaide Australia, and of note, was watch and clock maker to the colonial government.

Fully hallmarked for ‘Perryman’, 9ct and,, also of note the Lion passant facing right used by many Adelaide jewellers of the 1800’s and early 1900’s.

Crafted from 9ct rose gold throughout, the ornate engraved capping with scalloped edging surmounts the sharks tooth, and to the centre of the gold capping is an oval cartouche with the monogram ‘WMF’ in ye olde script.

A large example measuring 4cm x 3cm with top ring, beautifully crafted by one of our prestigious early Australian jewellers, this piece is a must for the serious collector of fine Australian jewellery.

The name of Berryman has been associated with the retailing of jewellery in Adelaide since 1855.  The film was founded by John Perrryman, watch and clock maker to the colonial government.  Located in King William Street from 1855 to 1935.

After the death of John Perryman in 1872, his widow Mrs E.M. Perryman managed the firm.  In 1882 she advertised in Sands and Mcdougall’s ‘South Australia Directory’ as “watch and clock maker, jeweller and silversmith”.  

Perryman and Co. continued to trade in King William Street Adelaide until 1935, and eventually in Victoria Square until the 1950’s.
