One of the prettiest, all original and immaculate bangles we’ve had the pleasure of offering.

Fully hallmarked for manufacture in 1902, from 9ct yellow gold, and assayed in Birmingham.

Sadly the makers marks are not quite legible unfortunately the jeweller has etched over their own makers mark!

Designed as an oval hinged bangle and set with nine of the most stunning green antique cut Garnet doublets** in graduating formation, interspersed with a set of two tiny natural half seed

What are Doublets?

When some hear the term ‘Doublet’ the first thought is ‘fake’!  Nothing could be further from the truth.

Jewellery has been evolving since the beginning of time and ’new’ techniques have been found and used by jewellers throughout history.  Garnet topped doublets were first used in 1850… and were used to resemble other gemstones.

Around this time it was found that molten glass would adhere to garnet - no glue is used!  The top portion consists of Garnet and the bottom glass, resulting in the top of the stone being resistant to wear, as Garnet is 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale.

The result in this bangle is that the Garnet topped doublets appear the colour and beauty of a fine Columbian Emerald.. absolutely stunning.

To both side galleries of the bangle is a fine almost architectural etching which simply adds to the overall beauty and quality of this piece.

A reluctant sale for us, this piece has won our hearts, a true heirloom piece for the future.
