A superb piece of Australian history in the form of a sumptuous Victorian era Sterling Silver locket and its original book chain.

A heavy and large example, the locket is a large 6.5cm x 3.5cm including the wide generous bale, and the book chain itself is a very pleasing 47cm neck circumference.

Set in gypsy star set fashion is a large rose-cut ‘paste’ (glass) stones with resembles an old cut diamond to the observer, it’s simply beautiful ! And to the verso stunningly engraved monogram initials ‘ EC’.

Opening to reveal the presence of both original internal rims, one original glass frame, and one replacement clear plastic frame to the other.

The book chain is exquisite… very ornate in style with tiny ‘stars’ set to each alternating panel which complement the star set gem to the front of the locket.

Increasingly hard to find with the associated (5cm) extension drop, this can be used to extend the book chain allowing for a larger neck circumference if desired.

A heavy and stunning piece of antique Australian jewellery, all original, stamped in numerous places with Sterling in the Victorian Australian manner, this is a must have piece for the serious collector.

CONDITION
Very very good antique condition.  There are some tiny pinpoint impressions to face of locket, this doesn’t detract from the beauty and Australian significance of the locket.  Book chain is excellent, no repairs or issues, an ornate and heavy example.  Bolt rings work very well.  Inside locket retains both original rims, one original glass pane and one plastic clear pane (later addition).  Locket opens and closes with a secure snap. Minor facet softening to paste stone, but quite lovely!  A wonderful piece of antique Australian jewellery.
