Antique Victorian Jet And Seed Pearl Mourning Locket - Circa 1880’s

This lovely sentimental piece dates to the 1880s, styled as a mourning locket complete with an ornate hair work feature to the rear of the locket, typical of the era.
Set to the front of the locket is a ‘star’ with a half seed pearl set to centre, gold in hue (not tested). There is an early but later addition bolt ring in either 9ct gold or very very good quality gold filled, as was often seen during this period.
To the verso exists an original silver pane which is removal, set with the original early hard plastic pane. The hair and wire work is in lovely condition and presentation, this could be removed if desired and easily replaced with your own photo or momento.
The onyx presents in lovely condition, the locket is beautifully smooth, free from damage, scratches or chips. The locket measures 3.5cm x 2.7cm including the fixed top ring, it is a great size to pair with your other pendant necklaces, not too large but certainly not too small.
Collectible, highly desirable and certainly a wearable every day (with care of course) piece of antique jewellery, ready to pair with your favourite chain!

CONDITION
Good antique condition. No chips or damage to Jet. Half seed Pearl is original with no re-gluing. Top ring is original, base metal with enamel/fired black paint, some tiny losses, insignificant. Original rear locket compartment, original hair and gold wire work beneath the original clear early hard plastic pane (this hair work could be easily removed if desired and your own photo placed).
