DESCRIPTION (Please scroll to the bottom to view video)

This extraordinary Ethiopian honeycomb Opal defies photography (ours at least..) and need to be seen to be believed.

Known for their incredible neon bright and vivid colour play this 5.5ct beauty shows magnificent flashes of reds, oranges, greens, yellows and blues all against the gorgeous ‘honeycomb’ background.

This particular Opal has been professionally set in to a vintage 9ct yellow gold setting and the effect is stunning… old and new do work well together!

Measuring 2.0cm x 1.0cm x 5.7mm or 5.5ct, six claw set to scrolled shoulders and a slim flat shank.

The presence this ring has on the finger is remarkable.. mesmerising, fascinating, this Opal draws the attention from all who sees her.

Read below for some information on Ethiopian Opals.. we immersed this beauty in water to verify she is a true hydrophane Opal, and to see this phenomenon ourselves, and she, within a few minutes, did indeed become truly transparent!   This phenomenon is prized by collectors.

ETHIOPIAN OPALS

The new Ethiopian opals range from opaque to translucent, but most of the high quality pieces are translucent. They display a full range of colors against a translucent white body colour.

When immersed in water for a short period -- a few minutes to an hour -- many of these opals become quite transparent. This is typical of hydrophane opal, which is dry and porous and can absorb water without any damage to the stone and sometimes with no appreciable affect on the color flash.

It is fascinating to watch this opal become completely clear when immersed in water. The process is fully reversible within a few hours, depending on the humidity and thickness of the opal. This phenomenon is prized by collectors.

Ethiopian opal is believed to be an emotional intensifier, enhancing the true nature of those who wear it. Some say it strengthens the will to live and shields the wearer against negativity, burning off bad karma.
