Vintage 9ct Gold And Silver Masonic Ball - Sheffield 1980
They are still in production to this day, however they most commonly date to the late 19th to early 20th century. This fine example is hallmarked for assay in Sheffield and dated lettered for 1980 with makers marks for ’S Bros’.
Crafted from both 9ct rose gold and silver (inside) to the inside pyramids which is the most typical construction seen, very rarely are they found in 9ct or 18ct inside.
The orb is of 9ct gold and in its closed position resembles a ‘ballot ball’ used during Masonic voting. Once opened this Orb folds out to reveal six hand engraved pyramids with 24 Masonic symbols - 4 per pyramid.
A heavy example at 9.46 grams and measuring 4 x 3cm when open and 1.6cm round when closed.
Folding open and closed perfectly, the hinge arms in full secure and functional order and with original 9ct gold bale.
