Lapis - derived from the Latin word for ‘stone’ and Lazuli from Medieval Latin for ‘from the sky or heavens’ literally translates aptly for a stone from the heavens!
Given its beautiful ultramarine blue / violet hue it is no wonder this stone, or technically a rock, has been popular throughout the centuries.
(Lapis Lazuli is technically a rock not a mineral like most. It is an aggregate of several minerals such as lazurite, pyrite, calcite, feldspar, mica, diopside and others).
This lovely example is crafted from 14ct rose gold and is bezel set with a large 2.0cm x 1.5cm Lapis Lazuli which, true to its reputation, is almost a violet blue in hue, with a little pale hint of calcite here and there and two tiny flecks of pyrite.
Set in a rub over bezel setting, to a twist border, raised strut work gallery and upswept shoulders to a flat comfortable shank.
Giving a substantial finger coverage of 2.4cm x 2.0cm and such a bright splash of intense deep blue this ring makes a statement when ever she is worn.
(N.B. Lapis Lazuli is the 9th wedding anniversary gemstone).
