Georgian 9ct Natural Seed Pearl Rock Crystal Lace Pin / Fichu / Brooch
The centre rock crystal is beautifully and quite unusually faceted and really steals the show! Foil back is in good condition, with just the slightest hint of degradation really only visible under magnification. Fully enlosed back and original 'C' clasp and overly long pin befitting the era.
Is it a Brooch or a Pin?
"These brooches are sometimes also called lace pins, or fichu pins, They were designed to hold in place a handkerchief of linen or lace worn by women around their shoulders and overlapped at the front. They could also be seen worn pinned to a ribbon or bracelet. They were first used around 1790 and up until around the beginning of the Victorian era in 1837, and continued in use after that but usually as mourning pins".
