Large Victorian Sterling Silver Engraved Locket Circa 1885

Collections: Sold Archive

Strikingly impressive large locket dating to the late Victorian era circa 1880-90.

Crafted from Sterling silver and measuring 5.3cm x 4.3cm (without bale, with bale 7.2cm drop).  Impressively heavy also at over 27 grams.

Engraved to one side with what appears to be a very ornate ‘tree of life’ or similar, and surrounding it is a finely detailed wreath motif also.

To the other side of the locket are the initials ‘EBH’ in very gothic intertwined script, and to the border a further detailed engraving running the circumference of the locket face.

Sadly her inner rims have been lost over time, but a photo or two can still be placed and there are two panes of a plastic material in place.

A very large and wide inverted V style bale will accommodate a large calibre chain or bolt ring.

Perhaps this is the locket you have been looking for to attach to a lovely Victorian silver book chain!
