A truly beautiful example of late Deco, early 1930s jewellery, this gorgeous sapphire and diamond trilogy ring dates to approximately the early 1930s. Wonderfully elegant and timeless in its design, it combines the magnificent colour of a natural blue sapphire with the unmistakable charm and sparkle of two Old European-cut diamonds. A particularly lovely ring, with delicate proportions, beautiful craftsmanship and an abundance of character!
Taking centre stage is a gorgeous natural blue sapphire, measuring approximately 4.4mm in diameter and estimated at 0.40 carats. Beautifully secured within a traditional six-claw setting, the sapphire displays the most captivating, richly saturated blue. In natural daylight, its colour comes alive with vibrant royal-blue hues and flashes of almost electric blue, while softer lighting reveals a deeper, more midnight-blue tone. A wonderfully characterful gemstone, particularly when contrasted against the warmth of the yellow gold.
Flanking the sapphire are two beautiful Old European-cut diamonds, each measuring approximately 3.6mm in diameter and estimated at 0.17 carats, giving a combined diamond weight of approximately 0.34 carats. Graded approximately F in colour with SI2 clarity, these lovely antique-cut diamonds possess a bright, lively sparkle, with their distinctive faceting lending a little old-world romance to the design. The three gemstones are individually claw-set within beautifully crafted, open-backed galleries, allowing light to enter the settings and further accentuate the brilliance and colour of the stones.
The ring bears both '18CT' and 'PLAT' stamps, a combination commonly encountered in jewellery of this period, when platinum was frequently employed in the construction of gemstone settings alongside yellow gold. Given these markings and the style of construction, it is quite possible that the original settings, likely the claws, incorporated platinum. At some stage in the ring’s history, the original platinum claws have been skilfully retipped/ replaced in 18ct yellow gold, possibly as a matter of personal preference. This work has been undertaken with great care and sensitivity, beautifully complementing the existing 18ct yellow gold shank while remaining entirely sympathetic to the ring’s original design and period character.
The trilogy setting spans a lovely 1.46cm across the finger, with a beautifully balanced arrangement of the three gemstones. Rising approximately 4.32mm from the finger, the openwork galleries lend an attractive sense of dimension without making the ring overly imposing. The shoulders taper gracefully into a slim by design, elegantly proportioned yellow-gold shank which is substantial and strong in construction.
A wonderfully feminine and timeless trilogy ring, with magnificent colour, sparkling antique diamonds and all the charm of early 20th-century jewellery. It presents beautifully on the finger and would make a particularly special addition to any antique and vintage jewellery collection.

Condition
Presenting in beautiful condition for its approximate 90 years of age. The sapphire is securely held within its six-claw setting, flanked by two bright and sparkling Old European-cut diamonds. One diamond displays a small surface-reaching inclusion, visible under 10× magnification and noted for accuracy. The sapphire is equally lovely, free from abrasions, with the minuscule mark adjacent to the outer edge of one claw, detectable under 10× magnification but otherwise eye-clean. As noted above, the claws have been skilfully retipped/replaced during the ring’s history, retaining the settings original-style appearance. The open-backed galleries are beautifully detailed, while the slim-by-design yellow-gold shank remains substantial and strong.
A beautifully presented, almost antique ring, ready to be enjoyed for many more years!
