Dating to the Victorian era, the locket in fact hallmarked for manufacture in Birmingham 1884 by H.Bros, this large and stunningly detailed ‘MIZPAH’ locket has to be seen to be believed.  Measuring a very large 5.4cm x 4xm and crafted from Sterling silver with rose gold accents for the ‘Mizpah’, banners and scroll work.

‘Throughout the Victorian era, the practice of engraving  jewellery with the word “MIZPAH” grew in popularity. The word is Hebrew and means “Watchtower” which translates as “May God watch over you,” the jewellery was perhaps given as a token of either love or friendship’.

Suspending the locket is an equally large 2.0cm rose gold filled bolt ring which attaches to the Victorian book chain with dainty ‘cross’ style motifs.  The chain has been tested as 870 Silver via XRF and measures a total neck circumference of 44.5cm.

Strikingly beautiful on the neck this Victorian combination is a must for the jewellery collector!
