An early pocket watch key-winder dating to the mid Victorian era circa 1840-60’s.

Key winding watches were first made during the 16th century and remained in use until Adrien Philippe invented the stem winding watch in 1842.

This early example is beautifully proportioned in size and today could be used as both a charm on a charm bracelet or as an interesting addition to you favourite #neckmess of the day, the large swivel bale will accommodate a chain, bolt or dog-clip with ease.

Gold cased in manufacture, three dimensional with scrolled work in relic, and set with antique cut red glass gems resembling garnets to both front and verso.

The internal watch winder stem appears be in very fine condition also.

A sweet and early piece of functional jewellery which has withstood the test of time (over 170 years), and with care could last another century or two!
