Antique Victorian/Early Edwardian Elephant Hair Crossover Bangle Circa 1900-1920
*Please read description carefully, this is quite a small bangle*
Please note, boxes are for display only unless otherwise stated.
From the days of the British Raj - 1858-1947, probably a souvenir from an Indian safari (not a hunting safari a riding safari!) this type of jewellery would be commissioned from the tail hair of the elephant you rode and brought back as a souvenir from your tour.
This unusual example is designed as a ‘crossover’ bangle which will expand easily to fit many sized wrists.
However .. the starting size is a very small 4.6cm diameter, but it easily expands to 6.5cm diameter. We would suggest if your wrist measures from between 13cm to 15cm this may be suitable. Of course this may have been originally made for a child… wouldn’t this exotic and interesting bangle be perfect for the young jewellery collector!
Crafted from a single strand of Elephant hair, and beautifully wrapped with gold ribboning (we believe gold filled as many were) with gold filled terminals at the crossover points.
Ingeniously crafted to allow for expansion, strong, and in wonderful condition, this unusual bangle is a must for the serious Elephant hair collector.
