Antique Victorian Aesthetic Period Sterling Silver BookChain And Locket Circa 1885-1901

A glorious and captivating antique Victorian Sterling Silver locket and original bookchain dating to the 1880-90’s crafted during the ‘Aesthetic era’ - a period during the Victorian years where jewellery was inspired by simple naturalistic themes including birds, bees, leaves etc.
Featuring a sweet bluebird (or swallow) sitting atop a branch, to one compartment face, the other compartment displaying scrolling foliate work and a tiny stylistic cartouche just waiting perhaps for your personal monogram.
The locket itself is large - 5.4cm x 32.cm with the V shaped bale, and opens to reveal two compartments, one with the original rim, sadly the other has been lost to time.
We believe the blockchain is original, if not it is certainly of the period, and of note is the original ‘extender’ which suspends the locket which can be used to extend the already impressive 48cm book chain to 53cm if desired.
Both bolt rings are also original and in perfect working condition, wear this one with the locket, or without, use the extender for a longer look or without… a very versatile piece of late Victorian craftsmanship!

CONDITION
Very good to excellent antique condition. Locket appears to be the original, opens to reveal two compartments, one with original rim, replacement plastic pane, the other has no rim or pane. Locket opens and closes perfectly. Tiny impressions to ‘Bird’ compartment, none to the engraved compartment. Original strong V shaped bale. Both bolt rings original and in perfect working order. Bookchain is lovely, no repairs of damages.
