Superb and early pair of Victorian earrings circa 1870, almost definitely Australian in manufacture, designed as long drop earrings measuring a tantalising 4.8cm in length.

Crafted from 20ct gold which has been *bloomed* to give an even more lush, bright and matt finish to the finely textured foliate design.

From the shepherds hook we find a delicate clover shaped single motif to the main articulated body of the earring topped with a small red gem (probably paste, typical of the era), to the main shield shaped foliate section, and below a delicate articulated inverted torpedo drop.

The entire craftsmanship of these earrings is in ‘repoussé’.. a sheet of 20ct gold has been pressed and moulded from the reverse to create a design in low relief.

Light in the ear and therefore extremely comfortable to wear, articulated perfectly to swish and sway enticingly in the ear, these divine mid- Victorian earrings are a collectors dream.
