Magnificent and highly collectible we are thrilled to offer this Victorian Diamond Airgrette for purchase.

Dating to around the late Victorian to early Edwardian era circa 1900 this wonderful and original piece is of spray design, set principally with four Old Mine cut diamonds to 15ct gold gold and silver topped star settings, each weighing approx 0.10ct each, with another six small rose cut diamonds to the knife edge bar supporting stalks.

Attached by a 15ct gold swivel mechanism to the tortoiseshell ‘comb’ component who’s purpose is cleverly two-fold.

This piece could have been worn full extended, with the star spray upright inserted in to an ‘up-do’ or folded back upon itself and worn inverted with the stars pointing down. Either way is equally beautiful.

To the rear of the folding hinge mechanism is a cylindrical 15ct gold hollow tube to which the wearer would’ve inserted fine feathers to accent the ‘spray’ of the diamond stars. This high society piece would have adorned a wealthy women and originally would have had a custom made box, sadly this has been lost over the years.

These wonderful original pieces do not present themselves often… we can envisage this piece perhaps as a wedding present to be worn on the big day and ultimately becoming a future heirloom piece to be handed down throughout the generations.

CONDITION

Very good to excellent antique condition. All diamonds are original and of lovely quality with no chips, abrasions, white, bright and sparkly. Hinged mechanism works fluidly, perfectly and is in strong well constructed condition. No repairs. Tortoiseshell is in fine condition. Superb original Victorian Airgrette.
