Antique Australian Sterling Silver Quandong Nut Double Sided Locket Circa 1870-1890

Quintessentially Australian this rare piece of antique jewellery was crafted in the late Victorian era circa 1870-80 from a Quandong nut - a native species to Australia, found throughout the deserts and southern areas of Australia.

Designed as a finely crafted double sided opening locket with a finely worked Sterling silver ‘belt buckle’ border, and opening to reveal two original compartments with their original rims and panes inside to hold two photos if desired.
A strikingly unusual piece, a piece of jewellery you simply won’t see being worn by another.. a testament to the unique craftsmanship by our innovative, skilled, early Australian jewellers.

CONDITION
Very good to excellent antique condition. Both (2) original rims and panes inside locket. No damage to Quandong, Sterling silver is lovely, fine quality work to ‘belt’ perimeter. This locket is a ‘soft’ close, is does not close with a snap/click, it is secure and remains closed. No issues to note.
