Absolutely adorable antique 9ct rose gold Kewpie dating to around 1910.

Invented by cartoonist Rosie O’Neill around 1909 and quickly becoming an international sensation including in Australia where this particular example would have been manufactured given the style and type of 9ct marks to the verso.

Crafted from 9ct rose gold which would has been fire gilded over the 9ct rose gold in order to give it a buttery rich matte yellow colour, which is still present.

A nice size at 3.2cm drop from bale, this example has the added unusual feature of the Kewpie sanding on an ornate clover type base!

Of hollow construction and therefore quite light, however this approximately 110 year old charm/pendant is in simply wonderful condition.

Googly side glancing eyes, tiny ‘wing buds’ to her neck, little out splayed fingers, finely detailed cowlick curl, are all apparent on this little piece of iconic Australian jewellery and would be a little asset to any jewellery lovers collection.
