Very sweet and pretty early Australian ‘Toi et Moi’ ring dating to the late Art Deco era and manufactured by ‘A. Saunders’ Sydney.
Crafted from 18ct yellow gold and Platinum and set with two small bright and white brilliant cut Diamonds each measuring approximately 2.4mm each or approx 0.05ct each.
Each diamond is bead set in a Platinum square setting to an ornate openwork scrolled 18ct yellow gold gallery. The shoulders are tapered upswept also in Platinum to a half round yellow gold shank.
This precious little piece of Australian history by one of our largest early Australian firms lends itself perfectly to stacking with your favourite bands.
History of A. Saunders
A. Saunders founded his watchmaking and jewellery business in George Street Sydney by 1884. Moving to a new premises at 815-817 George Street a few years later and “Saunders Corner” at Railway Square became a well known landmark of the city.
Displaying a considerable array of jewellery and silver throughout the Federation era and beyond, the firm’s half and full page advertisements appeared regularly in the ‘Bulletin’ and the ‘Sydney Mail’.
Employing over 30 craftsmen and assistants in his sizeable workshop Saunders improved new machinery and was making his ow gold and silver chains.
Saunders had an extensive country clientele, goods being dispatched to most tows in New South Wales.
The business was acquired by Angus and Coote in the 1970’s.
