Antique Australian 9ct Rose Gold “The Dinkum Kewpie” Pin Circa 1918

Original “Dinkum Kewpie” produced in Australia as a ‘sweetheart brooch’

which were given as gifts by servicemen leaving home to serve their country.
Not only given to wives and girlfriends these poignant pins were given to anyone the soldier was leaving behind such as their parents, children etc.

Worn as a symbol of pride, support and affection and to display that one of you roved ones was ‘doing their bit’ for their country.

This lovely example of course depicts the ‘Kewpie’ made infamous by Rose O’Neil after her first cartoon publication in 1909.

Constructed of 9ct rose gold, with original pin and bow motif and Kewpie, 9ct stamped to verso and Reg number 2607 ( as seen in Australian Jewellery 19th and early 20th century by Anne Schofield and Kevin Fahy ).
