Quite a rare and hard to fine example of a Mizpah Pendant.

Hallmarked wonderfully for one of our well known jewellers Robert Rollason active from 1888 - 1925 in Sydney Australia.

Constructed of lovely soft hued 9ct gold with scrolling border set with little round Turquoise cabochons which are most definitely not original.  We believe originally there would have been a combination of garnets and seed pearls but over time someone has had their jewellery replace these professionally with the little Turquoise you see today.

Hallmarked to the verso with Robert Rollason hallmarks (1854-1921), this lovely sentimental piece of Australian history would date to the early 1900’s.

History of Mizpah

Mentioned in the Bible, Mizpah is a Hebrew word that has come to connote an emotional bond between two people. Mizpah jewellery generally was exchanged between two people who were lovers or close friends and might be separated from each other for some amount of time.

Some of the pieces are engraved with the phrase, “The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another,” which immediately follows the mention of Mizpah in the book of Genesis.
