Antique Australian 9ct Rose Gold And Nephrite Jade ‘Heart’ Charm/Pendant Circa 1910
Crafted in 9ct rose gold which has been *bloomed* to give that lovely antique yellow/rosey hue we all adore in our antique jewellery.
Designed as a heart shaped charm/pendant, the heart carved from a lush green piece of Nephrite Jade, and capped with the ornate hand engraved surmount.
To the verso we find stamps for 9ct gold and ‘W’ denoting manufacture by Willis And Sons.
The small original sump ring is retained and suitable for a fine chain, or simple add it to the bolt ring on a favourite chain.
In pristine condition, this is a must for the Australian jewellery collector.
History of Blooming
Blooming, a popular finishing technique for karat gold jewellery from 1870 to 1890, was first documented in 1853. The means for creating a bloom finish involved dipping a gold item into a boiling mixture of hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid), saltpeter (potassium nitrate), salt and water. This process burned off any alloys on the surface resulting in an alloy-free, thin layer of soft, pure gold on the item.
