Can we ever walk past an antique cigar band?!  Absolutely not! Especially when it is Australian, rose gold and made by one of our best and early makers.

Crafted by Robert Robertson (1854-1921) as indicated by the one remaining hallmark of a ‘Thistle’, sadly at some time in its history the other two hallmarks were lost to a re-size.

Wide at just under 1cm throughout and set to the centre in gypsy style a small faceted red Garnet (tested).

This lush rosiest of rose gold rings has an impressive presence on the finger, is of course very low profile, and who doesn’t want a piece of Australian history in their jewellery collection.

History of Robert Rollason

Robert Robertson was born in Cupor, Fife in 1820 and migrated to Australia in 1852.
He established his business in Collins Street West in Melbourne in 1854.  By the 1870’s he had a flourishing business and had moved to he’s new premises at 28 Little Collins Street West.

His son, Robert junior, become a partner in the business in 1875 and the name changed to Robert Robertson and Sons.  Robert senior passed away in 1887 and by this time the firm had expanded to around 50 workers.

CONDITION
Very very good antique condition.  Garnet has no chips or abrasions.  Minor marks to gold.  An early resize is quite evident to the inner shank and slightly visible to the outer band only.  Two original hallmarks have been sadly lost to this early resize.  The resize is been assessed by our jewellery as very stable and solid.
