Perfectly pretty antique Australian pendant necklace or negligee pendant if you prefer by one of our best early Australian jewellers Duggin, Shappere and Co., and hallmarked with their ‘Anchor’ symbol, 9 and the ‘wheatsheaf’ guarantee mark used by the Manufacturing Jewellers Association of Victoria.

Crafted in 9ct yellow gold with a central open work circle of natural half seed Pearls with a centre round Pearl.

Suspended below are two drops in slightly asymmetrical style ‘negligee style’ set with further half seed Pearls and two articulated baroque shaped Pearls which dance prettily with movement.

A 9ct gold trace chain measuring a generous 42cm allows this one depending on neck circumference to sit below the collar bones.

In lovely condition for its age this special piece of Australian history by one of our famous jewellers is a collectors dream.

Duggin, Shappere and Co. established their business in Howey Place, off Little Collins Street in Melbourne in 1896.  It was one of the major jewellery manufacturers operating in Australian in the first quarter of the 20th century. Producing an extensive range of gold jewellery for the increasing demand from the ever growing Australian population.  Their use of seed pearls is well known in their original designs of both pendants and brooches.

Their trademark hallmark featuring an ‘Anchor’ was used in conjunction with the guarantee marks of the Manufacturing Jewellers’ Association of Victoria, seen here on this remarkable original design.

Moving premises several times the settled into their final premises at 343 Little Collins Street where they continued until 1932.
