Antique Australian 18ct Yellow Gold Opal And Diamond Ring by P. Falk & Co. Circa 1915-20
Manufactured in Australia by the jewellery company P. Falk and Co. who established their business in Melbourne in 1864, this wonderful piece of Australian history dates in manufacture to around 1915-1920.
Crafted from lush and bright 18ct yellow gold and centred with a bright solid white Opal, ten claw set, displaying a play of colour consisting of blues, greens, yellows and hints of pinky/reds here and there.
Surrounding the Opal are ten small old Mine cut diamonds in halo formation which accent the Opal beautifully.
Thick and very substantial squared off shoulders flow to the equally solid and substantial shank, this is a very hand crafted quality ring.
Don’t miss this chance to own a piece of increasingly difficult to find antique hallmarked Australian jewellery by one of our finest early jewellery firms.
P. Falk and Co. 1851 - 1950+
Having its origins in Melbourne in 1851 the company began as a modest wholesale jewellery and importing business by D. And P. Falk. In 1864 the company was formed as a partnership between Philip and Silas Falk of Birmingham England, Salis Schlank of Adelaide, and Abraham Benjamin of Melbourne.
In 1884 they opened their substantial warehousing and manufacturing facilities at Little Collins Street East and they employed some 40 hands under the supervision of P. H. Cadby. The firm was a major manufacturer and supplier of gold jewellery and silverware throughout Australian in the 1890’s and early decades of 20th century.
The partnership between Philip, Silas Falk and S. Schlank and A. Benjamin was dissolved in 1887. Schlank took over the Adelaide manufactory and other operations.
P. Falk and Co. was also listed as Gawler Place Adelaide from 1887 to 1900.
In 1913 Falk and Co. registered the ‘Falcon’ as their mark on jewellery.

CONDITION
Very good antique condition. No chips or abrasions to Opal, ten claw set, all original claws. Diamonds are bright and lively, one or two diamonds are slightly ‘greyer’ in colour due to small carbon flaws… this does not detract from the originality and beauty of this ring. Shank is very substantial, thick and solid with no signs of thinning.
