Immaculate 15ct solid gold double Albert chain manufactured by W.F Cole for S.Hoffnung & Co. Hallmarked clearly to the original T bar with ’15/‘Anvil/‘H’.

“The ‘Anvil’ plus ‘H’ are considered to be those of S. Hoffnung and Co, being placed on jewellery wholesaled by them. The latter marks implicated W.F. Cole as the maker”. (Credit page 122 Australian Jewellery gold & Silversmiths Makers & Marks - Cavil, Cocks and Grace).

A non-graduated curb-link with 15ct stamped to each and every link, measuring 37cm and weighing a lovely 37.2 grams.

With two hallmarked and stamped 15ct gold dog clips in perfect springy working order, one of which is simply stamped 15ct and the other bears hallmarks for another well known Australian maker by the name of George Jackson 1885-1931.

The dog clips are identical as are the round and 15ct stamped jump rings. How this chain has come to have dog clips by another maker alludes us but they absolutely appear original to the piece and of of the same era.

The sliding T-bar has its original extra length of chain to which a fob could/would have been added if desired.

Heavy, lush and rich in colour and highly collectible for its rarity, originality, Australia origins and increasingly hard to find gold content of 15ct, this chain is wearable and very desirable to the serious collector.

CONDITION

Excellent antique condition. No thinning to links, jump links or dog clip terminals. Clear hallmarks throughout. Dog clips are tight, solid and function securely and tightly. Rich in colour, lovely 15ct yellow patina. Superb chain.
