Stunning Sterling Silver festoon necklace dating the Art Nouveau era circa 1905, unsigned but very much in the Liberty & Co Style.

Crafted throughout by hand from Sterling Silver and overlaid in vitreous enamel in vibrant and bright green, yellow blues and pearly cream.

Wonderfully organic in its flowing lies, curved applied silver wire work and most organic of all its creamy Pearl set to the main pendant drop reminding us very much of a Zygopetalum Orchid ?

It is said that ‘ The biggest difference is that Arts & Crafts jewellery had to be created by hand, whereas Art Nouveau didn't have this criterion. Additionally, where Art Nouveau focused on intricately representing the natural world, Arts & Crafts wanted to show nature in all its simplicity.

The verso shows the hand working/craftsmanship of this piece, tooling marks, hand applied silver to joins etc a true testament to the Arts & Crafts / Art Nouveau era.

CONDITION

Very good to excellent antique condition. The enamel is undamaged, with no dulling. Silver work is lovely, Pearl is creamy white. Chain is strong and original barrel push in clasp works perfectly. Striking and unique piece.
